I went to college and my girlfriend of two years had one more year left. We decided it was okay to date others while away but after a couple of months of "trying" that we both agreed we didn't really want to do that and wanted each other only. At least that is how she put it.

I came home for the summer to hear people saying, "Oh, you're still with her? I thought she was with [this other guy]." I would confront her and she would cry and say it wasn't true. So, I left it. We broke up and she got knocked by him a few months later and had a kid without going to college. Now she's stuck in a dead-end job with a kid miserable and I'm marriage and have a great life.
